New Brunswick, NJ, May 2018- For the 5th year in a row, Unitex has helped support the “School Kids Sweep up Day” in New Brunswick in honor of Earth Day. Volunteers from Unitex’s New Brunswick plant teamed up with Ms. Branscomb’s 5th grade students at McKinley School to remove litter around the school grounds. In addition to donating their time to the event, the team at Unitex also provided lunch for everyone involved in the Sweep Up event.
The 2018 School Kids Sweep Up Day, which took place on April 17th, was one of the most successful events yet. Roosevelt School won the Gold Dust Pan award for collecting 37.77 lbs of litter per student, McKinnley School won the Silver Dust Pan award for removing 14.09 lbs of litter per student, Woodrow Wilson School won the Bronze Dust Pan award clearing 13.63 lbs of litter per student and Redshaw School won the Green Dust Pan award for finding the most unusual ensemble of items during the litter cleanup. In total 1620 lbs of litter was removed, resulting in clean and beautiful neighborhoods.
“The 2018 School Kids Sweep Up Day was a huge success thanks to our partnership with Unitex, and other local companies and organizations,” said Donna Y. Caputo, CRP, Recycling Coordinator & Clean Communities Coordinator, City of New Brunswick. “Participating in the School Kids Sweep Up Day has far reaching benefits beyond our community. Students learn about the significant impact litter has on our community, our water ways and our environment while taking hands on action to abate the problem. Students also benefit by working with employees from private industries like Unitex, giving them insight to the fine people that make up these corporations while giving back to our community. New Brunswick is fortunate to have this event sponsored by Unitex for the past 5 years.”
“Our team looks forward to this event every year,” said Seth Gershman, Marketing & Communications Director for Unitex. “It’s important to teach our younger generations the importance of caring for the Earth and we are happy that we can be a major part of that in New Brunswick.”
